FMVA Studio Crawl
October 3 & 4, 2020

The 2020 FM Visual Artists Studio Crawl is open to FMVA members who are working artists and have permanent studios, or have permanent individual space in a group studio, that can be open to the public for the entire Studio Crawl event. It is also open to galleries that continually represent FMVA artists and Group studios. Both must be members of FMVA.

This is an educational event. Artists, whether in individual studios or group studios, are required to demonstrate or discuss their work and must be present for the entire event. Galleries must invite the FMVA member artists they represent to be present in the gallery during the event, and they must display a provided list of the FMVA members they represent.

Individual participants MUST commit to providing a piece of work for the Studio Crawl Preview Exhibit at the Plains Art Museum. Artists represented by galleries or group studios can participate in the exhibit if they are FMVA members. Maximum size is 2’ wide for 2-D work or 18” x 18” x 18” for 3-D work. Dates of the exhibit to be announced.

Participants must be in the Fargo-Moorhead area (approximately 30-mile radius).

All participants are required to report retail sales tax to the appropriate state.

All correspondence between the committee and participants is electronic.

Application is free. Participation fee is $125.00.

Accepted participants can request promotional brochures for distribution. In addition, FMVA will mail brochures to address lists provided by the participants (lists are protected and sent directly to the mailing house, which merges and purges duplicates).  20,000 brochures will be printed and approximately 10,000 will be direct mailed.

 

Calendar and Participation Requirements

 

February

FMVA member artists will receive an e-mail notifying them of the Studio Crawl Calendar and Participation Requirements (printed below).

March 21

Returning participants must confirm their intent to participate in the 2020 Studio Crawl by emailing mulciberglass@hotmail.com. There are no exceptions to this deadline. Participants will receive e-mail notices when their confirmations are received and should start preparing their statements and images.

New participants must submit the following application items to mulciberglass@hotmail.com for an independent juror to evaluate. There are no exceptions to this deadline. Artists will receive e-mail notices when their application items are received. DO NOT send partial applications!

-Your name, mailing address (for mail), studio name, studio address (for the brochure), email address, URL, phone #s (label as cell, studio, home, office).

-Selection of high resolution, electronic file images. Include at least 2 images of your studio (labeled “yournamestudio1” and “yournamestudio2”) and at least one image of you WORKING in your studio (labeled “yournameworking”). Also include 5 images of your work. Label one image as “yournamebrochure.” This image will be in the brochure if you are selected to participate. Label the rest “yourname1” “yourname2” etc.

-A document indicating the title or caption of the work in each image, year created, medium, and the size of the works.

April 1

New participants’ applications are juried, and applicants will be notified of the results.

Returning participants must submit all materials for the promotional brochure, listed below! Participants will receive an e-mail notification when their materials and participation fee have been received.

 -Your name, mailing address (for mail), studio name, studio address (for brochure), email address, URL, phone #s (label as cell, studio, home, office).

 -Two high resolution, electronic file images. The photo you’d like used in the brochure should be of your work and labeled “yournamebrochure.” The second image, of you WORKING in your studio, should be labeled “yournameworking” and may be used in Studio Crawl publicity.

 -A document indicating the title or caption of the image, year created, medium, and the size of the work.

-Statement for brochure in first person (“I” “Me” “My”) of 10-50 words. Images and statements from last year’s brochure will not be accepted!

A news release will be sent to the regional media to announce the 2020 participants. If your application, materials, or fee are missing, you will not be participating.

Sell Ads, Find Sponsors, Design brochure.

July

Print brochures.

July 10

Brochures are available to participants for distribution. You will receive an email informing you of where and when to pick up brochures.

August 22

Send your mailing lists by this date.

August – October

Preview Exhibition.

September 4
Brochures are mailed to participants’ and sponsors’ lists.

October 3 and 4
